Véronique Passani was a young journalist in Paris when she interviewed the up-and-coming movie star Gregory Peck. After the interview, he left for Italy to make Roman Holiday (1953) opposite Audrey Hepburn, a film in which he himself played a journalist. When shooting was done he made a beeline back to Paris and Passini. Married in 1955, they were a golden Hollywood couple, and also glamorous citizens of the world—literary, liberal, philanthropic. Véronique was known for her fashion acumen. Not only did she choose the best piece in a couture collection (think Balenciaga, Givenchy, YSL, Pucci, Cardin), she championed the new: Courrèges, for instance. Presenting one of Gregory’s tuxedos and 100 of Véronique’s ensembles, this exhibition celebrates the Peck sense of style. —L.J.
