Matthew Weiner’s Mad Men is achingly stylish, but that’s only its most obvious virtue. The story of both a man and his time, this 60s drama is filtered through the lens of a misogynistic consumer culture that both enables his rise and precipitates his fall. Over the course of seven seasons, protagonist Don Draper and those in his orbit live through so much life that watching the series once is only the beginning. Like any serious work of art, it reveals itself slowly—and looks damn good doing so. —Ashley Baker
