Born in Queens, New York, in 1942, Martin Scorsese has worked in film for more than five decades, starting with his first feature in 1967—Who’s That Knocking at My Door. In a new documentary that premiered at the New York Film Festival, Scorsese, now 82 and a pillar of American filmmaking, pulls back the curtain on his life in movies, beginning with his education at NYU Tisch, and provides an in-depth look at his personal archives as well as interviews with his closest creative partners. Film industry titans such as Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Daniel Day-Lewis offer their personal accounts of working with the director. The five-part series, directed by Rebecca Miller—daughter of the playwright Arthur Miller—releases on Apple TV+ on October 17. —Maggie Turner
