This World of Tomorrow, according to the Shed’s website, is “a journey into the past to find a dream of the future.” The journey in question is a trip back in time to the 1939 New York World’s Fair in Queens. The dream? To find love. Starring Tom Hanks and Kelli O’Hara, the new play is written by James Glossman and Hanks, and is based on the actor’s 2017 short story collection, Uncommon Type. It marks Hanks’s first time onstage since 2013, when he played in the Broadway production of Nora Ephron’s Lucky Guy, which earned him a Tony nomination. He now takes on the role of Bert Allenberry, a scientist living at the end of the 21st century who longs to revisit the past. Kenny Leon, who won a Tony Award in 2014 for A Raisin in the Sun, directs. —Jeanne Malle
