When a gas main explodes in quiet Oxford, two adults are killed and a young girl goes missing. So begins the new Apple TV series, Down Cemetery Road, an adaptation of the 2003 novel of the same name by Slow Horses author Mick Herron. The event brings together two women: bored art historian-turned-amateur sleuth Sarah Tucker (Ruth Wilson) and spiky private investigator Zoë Boehm (Emma Thompson). The pair soon find themselves entangled in a world of conspiracy and peril. Like Slow Horses, the dialogue is dependably acerbic and the humor is pitch black. —Paulina Prosnitz
