The Rise and Fall of Michelle Mone

Michelle Mone

Born in 1971, Michelle Mone has had many lives. Raised in a struggling family in Glasgow’s East End, she became a public relations mogul, an entrepreneur, and the self-styled Baroness Mone of Mayfair. She entered the House of Lords, and in 2013 The Guardian dubbed her “The First Lady of Lingerie.” Enter the pandemic. Mone became embroiled in controversy after lobbying ministers to award $273 million in PPE contracts to a company called PPE Medpro—from which she personally profited. What happened? And who is Michelle Mone, really? This two-part BBC Scotland documentary investigates. —Elena Clavarino
