On a residential block in the historically Italian-American neighborhood of Carroll Gardens, in Brooklyn, you will find what is arguably the best pizza in New York. That’s a largely contested claim in this city, but one that anyone who has had the pleasure (and chance) of dining at Lucali will attest to. The menu is simple and decidedly unsuitable for the gluten intolerant, and features just two items—pizza and calzones—with a seasonal selection of toppings. (No, you can’t get a pizza in bianco.) As delicious as it is hard to get a table, the restaurant is first come, first served; the line starts snaking around the block every day afternoon around 3:30. —Angelica Hicks
