Buvette not only has New York’s best croque monsieurs, it is also guilt-free (ish), because, when it comes to much of the menu, restaurateur Jody Williams (Via Carota, I Sodi) opted for small portions and simple ingredients. How very French! For artists, writers, the fashion set, and, yes, the tuned-in tourists, this quaint bistro acts as a watering hole. Come for the steamed eggs at breakfast, stay for an excellent selection of wine, and, of course, at least one snack-sized croque. —Clara Molot
