Yayoi Kusama: Infinite Love

Yayoi Kusama, Love is Calling, 2013.

151 3rd St, San Francisco, CA 94103, USA

Yayoi Kusama has been exploring the state of “self-obliteration” for decades. For her, it’s a floating place that stems from the hallucinations she’s experienced since childhood. “It made it possible for me to continue to make art every day,” she told The Guardian in 2018, “and this has saved my life.” With mirrors, flickering lights, and mesmerizing polka-dot galaxies she dazzles viewers into a trancelike state. For her first presentation in Northern California, Kusama is unveiling two Infinity Mirror Rooms, including her latest, Dreaming of Earth’s Sphericity, I Would Offer My Love, which she completed this year. —Elena Clavarino
