Pipilotti Rist: Your Palm is My Universe

Installation view of “Pipilotti Rist: Your Palm is My Universe,” 2025.

4 Jiuxianqiao Rd, Chaoyang, Beijing, China

Pipilotti Rist was born Elisabeth Charlotte Rist, in 1962, but at art school she started going by “Pipilotti”—a combination of her childhood nickname “Lotti” and the name of her childhood hero, Pippi Longstocking. Rist grew up in the Rhine Valley of Switzerland, and took a shine to art after studying theoretical physics in Vienna. Rist’s large-scale feminist installations, often immersive, retain something of the metaphysical. In this video installation lights carpet the gallery space. Your Palm is My Universe, commissioned by UCCA, takes viewers on a journey to a place unknown. —Elena Clavarino
