In 1769, the Royal Academy launched its annual Summer Exhibition—now the longest-running open-submission show of contemporary art in the world. Many of the works are available for purchase, with proceeds supporting artists and the Royal Academy’s charitable programs. Over the centuries, the show has expanded to include not just painting but also prints, film, photography, sculpture, and architectural models. This year, 1,700 works are on view, including new paintings by Tracey Emin and a large-scale courtyard installation by Ryan Gander. The 2025 edition is curated by architect Farshid Moussavi. —Elena Clavarino
