The Other Place

Jan 30 – Mar 1, 2026
545 W 30th St, New York, NY 10001, USA

The Other Place received tremendous reviews when it premiered at London’s National Theatre last year, boding well for its U.S. debut. Written and directed by Alexander Zeldin—who put on Love at the Park Avenue Armory in 2023—the play is a modern retelling of the Greek myth of Antigone. Though set in a contemporary suburb, The Other Place retains the tension and drama of the tragedy. Antigone, now Annie (Emma D’Arcy), and her sister Ismene, now Issy (Ruby Stokes), reunite for the anniversary of their father’s suicide, not, as in the myth, their brother’s death. They are joined by their uncle Chris (Tobias Menzies), whose bid for a fresh start is unsettled by Annie, who can’t move on. The reunion quickly curdles, as the fractured family confronts its visions of both past and future. —Jeanne Malle
