The painter Maria Helena Vieira da Silva (1908 to 1992), born in Portugal and raised in Paris, was known for blurring the lines between representation and abstraction. A pioneer of the Art Informel movement, Vieira da Silva painted cityscapes and interiors as geometrically faceted spaces (a glance at Cubism). She was a member of the postwar Paris art scene, and was the first female winner of the Grand Prix National des Arts, awarded to her in 1966. To inaugurate its online viewing room, Di Donna dedicates a glowing online retrospective to Vieira da Silva. —E.C.
