“Danish design” is too simplistic a term for Louise Roe’s aesthetic. The Copenhagen-based designer’s home collection, spanning tabletop, ceramics, textiles, furniture, and lighting, reflects a cross-pollination of Scandinavian minimalism, Bauhaus, Art Deco, and 1930s brutalism. Roe, who often collaborates with her daughter Sophia, established her design company in 2010 and opened her Copenhagen gallery and café in 2018. She favors pants from the Row, the Leica SL3-S, Kindred Black yuzu lip balm, and more.
When he’s not tending to his beloved dogs, Spellman is creative director of Mark Cross, one of America’s first luxury heritage brands. Founded in Boston in 1845, Mark Cross provided leather goods to the horse-and-buggy set. The brand came to prominence under the stewardship of Gerald and Sarah Murphy, Americans living in France in the glamorous social orbit of Hemingway, Picasso, and Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald. Nearly a century later, Spellman, who worked with Annie Leibovitz and brands including Gap, Moncler, and Banana Republic, is re-invigorating Mark Cross with his modern eye. A Brit living in Paris, Williams launched the independent interiors publication Neptune Papers in 2021. After the birth of her fifth child, Celia Muñoz was a de facto expert in children’s wear. In 2012, she founded La Coqueta—Spanish for “well groomed”—a children’s collection based on the traditional designs, defined by hand-smocking and shirring, bought on trips to her native Granada. She soon set up a flagship in London, where she lives with her family, and expanded La Coqueta’s reach globally. Poppy Jamie is an author, podcaster, and founder of mental-health platform Happy Not Perfect. A singular creative force, Michèle Lamy is as known for her partnership with her husband, fashion designer Rick Owens, as she is for her distinctive personal style, defined by gold teeth and henna-covered fingers, a ring from her Hunrod jewelry collection on each one. Lamy is a co-founder and the managing director of art and furniture at Owenscorp. Born in France, she studied philosophy and practiced law before moving to Los Angeles in 1979, where she ran the influential restaurant Les Deux Cafes and had her own clothing line, Lamy. She hired Owens as a pattern-maker, and the pair relocated to Paris in 2003 to grow the world of Rick Owens. Lamy presides over Lamyland, an umbrella entity for her independent creative projects, and records with her band Lavascar. Here, a few things that catch her enigmatic eye.
