When he’s not tending to his beloved dogs, Spellman is creative director of Mark Cross, one of America’s first luxury heritage brands. Founded in Boston in 1845, Mark Cross provided leather goods to the horse-and-buggy set. The brand came to prominence under the stewardship of Gerald and Sarah Murphy, Americans living in France in the glamorous social orbit of Hemingway, Picasso, and Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald. Nearly a century later, Spellman, who worked with Annie Leibovitz and brands including Gap, Moncler, and Banana Republic, is re-invigorating Mark Cross with his modern eye.
