Les Lalanne: Makers of Dreams

Installation view, Les Lalanne, 2022.

Apr 28 – July 29, 2022
Brook St, London W1K 4HR, United Kingdom

The Parisian couple Claude and Françoise-Xavier Lalanne called themselves “Les Lalanne.” They came to prominence in the 1960s—together!—but they created work separately, both looking to nature for inspiration. Over the years, Les Lalanne produced elephants, donkeys, rabbits, bears, and ducks that doubled as small tables, desks, bathtubs, chairs, and stools. Their stylized furniture found its way into hundreds of famous Parisian homes, and quickly propelled the eccentric duo to stardom. Françoise died in 2008, Claude in 2019. Spanning two galleries, this large-scale display contains 100 works by Les Lalanne, and is curated by the famed Italian designer Manfredi della Gherardesca. —Elena Clavarino
