On the morning of November 2, 2007, Amanda Knox returned to her home in Perugia, Italy, on Via della Pergola. Expecting her roommate Meredith to be out, she instead found the front door ajar, the bathroom streaked with blood, and Meredith’s bedroom locked. She called for help. When the door was forced open, the scene inside was shocking: Meredith lay still under a duvet, her throat cut. In that instant, Knox’s dreamy life abroad became a nightmare—one that would see her wrongfully imprisoned for four years. Her story is now retold by the actress Grace Van Patten in the limited series The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox. On August 19, at the New York Historical Society, a special screening will be followed by a conversation between Knox, Van Patten, the show’s creator and executive producer KJ Steinberg, and executive producers Monica Lewinsky and Warren Littlefield. —Carolina de Armas
