The Fifth Avenue Hotel has been named a “One to Watch” by the World’s 50 Best Hotels for 2026, a recognition reserved for hotels expected to make the list before long. It’s a fitting distinction for a property that has quickly become one of New York’s most compelling places to stay. Flaneur Hospitality spent nearly a decade restoring the McKim, Mead & White mansion overlooking Madison Square Park, creating a hotel that feels both unmistakably New York and entirely of its own world. Martin Brudnizki’s interiors are layered with Murano glass, hand-pleated silk, and enough eccentricity to keep them from looking like a decorator’s mood board. Andrew Carmellini’s restaurants and the Portrait Bar are reason enough to linger, but the real achievement is the hotel itself, a place that makes checking in feel like the point of the trip rather than where you happen to sleep. The best hotels make you wish your stay were longer—the Fifth makes you wonder why you’d stay anywhere else. —Jennifer Noyes
