To Rebehold the Stars: Dante Illustrated

Jan 1 – Sept 20, 2021
Piazzale degli Uffizi, 6, 50122 Firenze FI, Italy

Timed to the 700-year anniversary of Dante’s death, an online exhibition displays 16th-century Renaissance painter Federico Zuccari’s Divine Comedy drawings, created in red and black ink and shown only twice before, in 1865 and 1993. The fragile 88-drawing collection, which includes rare commentary from the artist, is best observed online, says the Uffizi’s director Eike Schmidt, where viewers can zoom in on the high-resolution images, read the accompanying text, and “jump around,” he suggests, from image to image. —J.V.
