The Neverending Story: Part II

Pablo Picasso, Homard et Chat sur la Plage, 14 January 1965, 1965.

Via Maistra 37, 7500 St Moritz, Switzerland

“I believe in the future resolution of these two states, dream and reality, which are seemingly so contradictory, into a kind of absolute reality, a surreality, if one may so speak.” That’s a line from André Breton’s 1924 Surrealist manifesto, a rally to artists everywhere. And they answered the call, creating landscapes of the subconscious, extraterrestrial shapes, and barren worlds with strange creatures. To celebrate the Surrealist movement’s 100th anniversary, the writer Bob Colacello has curated a selection of significant works from the first half of the 20th century, including Pablo Picasso’s Homard et Chat sur la Plage, along with contemporary works, now on view in Saint-Moritz. It makes for a great stop in town after the slopes.
