When we think of Impressionism, we think of France, not to mention the mastery of Monet, Manet, Morisot. But the North—Scandinavia and Canada—provided fertile ground for similarly minded painters such as Edvard Munch, Hilma af Klint, and Emily Carr, who painted summer days in the boreal forests. This exhibition in Basel presents 70 paintings from these two regions, dating from 1880 to 1930. —Elena Clavarino
