It was a shocking article in The New York Times that led the conceptual artist Jennifer Bolande to create a series that ruminates on news, history, and destruction. The Times article detailed the excavation of several 14th-century plague victims from a London cemetery, and reading it left Bolande wondering: How do reporters shape our perception of the past? How do the flat images in newspapers inhabit our layers of consciousness? Bolande’s work in this virtual show addresses these questions. —E.C.
