For those familiar with Lily Allen, you know she’s a commanding stage presence. This is the singer who gave us the cheerfully defiant “Fuck You” and the nostalgic “Littlest Things.” After making her West End debut in 2021, in 2:22 – A Ghost Story, Allen is returning to the stage as the calculating, self-sabotaging Hedda Gabler in Matthew Dunster’s new adaptation of the Ibsen classic. The play opens with Hedda returning from her honeymoon, already bored with married life. She soon develops an attraction for a former lover, and is also blackmailed by a predatory acquaintance. Before she knows it, life is spiraling before her eyes. Dunster directs. —Jeanne Malle
