An exciting discovery is at the heart of Colnaghi’s new London exhibition: a recently redisovered painting by Fede Galizia, an Italian renaissance artist. Galizia was considered a prodigy, her skill noted by the Italian historian Giovanni P. Lomazzo when she was just 12 years old. As she aged, her art embraced the lavish compositions typically found in the work of Flemish artists, as seen in this rediscovered still life. The exhibition includes rare works by the Baroque artist Giovanna Garzoni, painter to the Medici family and one of the first women to practice the art of still life. There’s also—the cherry on top—the only known painting by Caterina Angela Pierozzi, protégée of the Grand Duchess Vittoria della Rovere and one of only two female artists to be admitted to the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno before the 18th century. —Clara Molot
