Ethiopia is located in the Horn of Africa, between Europe and the Middle East. The Ethiopian Highlands, in the North, are bisected by the Great Rift Valley, which runs from the Red Sea to the Danakil Depression. The valley is one of the earliest seats of mankind. The only African nation that was never colonized, Ethiopia has also been a major crossroads for many cultures and religions. This rare exhibition explores 2,000 years of Ethiopian art history, and moves from the Kingdom of Axum to contemporary artists like Julie Mehretu. —Elena Clavarino
