Thailand’s first large-scale contemporary art museum was a long time coming. The brainchild of the Thai businessman Purat Osathanugrah, it was conceived as a home for the extensive art collection of Purat’s father, Petch Osathanugrah, who died in 2023. The holdings include works by Montien Boonma, Lee Bul, Anselm Kiefer, and Alicja Kwade, and the museum of 75,000 square feet contains 11 galleries. Housed in a repurposed 1980s warehouse, the concrete-heavy structure features a striking cone-shaped gallery known as the Chapel. Its pared-back aesthetic draws on Buddhist principles, and is meant to feel austere, contemplative, and even moody. The opening of Dib Bangkok is the city’s biggest art event of the past decade. —Elena Clavarino
