Last April, in Paris, three months shy of 88, David Hockney opened the most important show of his career. “This exhibition means an enormous amount because it is the largest exhibition I’ve ever had,” he said at the time, “eleven rooms in the Fondation Louis Vuitton. Some of the very last paintings I’m working on now will be included in it, and I think it’s going to be very good.” Since then, Hockney hasn’t stopped working. Over the past six months, he has produced a series of paintings featuring chairs inspired by Van Gogh. They are on view here, along with 15 iPad paintings of the night sky, created in Normandy during the 2020 lockdown. —Elena Clavarino
