Far, far away from the land in which its story is set, Dark Noon became a hit at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Taking place in Civil War-era America and chronicling the history that led up to it, the play has finally arrived in New York City. An entirely South African cast emphasizes the historical roles of Native Americans, enslaved people, and migrant workers, allowing their stories to be told and personified by actors who—like the characters they are playing—are outsiders in America. As Mark Fisher wrote in The Guardian, Dark Noon “paints a picture of a brutal, unforgiving landscape where only the most merciless survive.” —Zack Hauptman
