A layered examination of Jewish stereotypes, Good Showbiz journeys through the history of Jewish comedy and theater. Led by Sandy Synagoguenstein, played by Curb Your Enthusiasm’s Eli Leonard, the play is full of references to Fiddler on the Roof and The Merchant of Venice. With “Jewish interruptions” throughout—a bar mitzvah, a Shabbos dinner, and even the Holocaust—Good Showbiz “conveys the horror of the Shoah better than any scholar could,” says The Jewish Journal. Be prepared to laugh (albeit nervously), cry, and even earn money along the way. Directed by Theodore Bressman (Pam & Tommy, Miracle Workers) and Leonard, Good Showbiz makes its East Coast debut this month. Punchy and provocative, it delivers. —Alexandra Lemer
