Meet Cecco del Caravaggio, the mysterious student and lover of the Baroque master Michelangelo Merisi, otherwise known as Caravaggio. For the first time—and in the newly renovated Fondazione Accademia Carrara—an exhibition is dedicated to Cecco, whose real name was Francesco Boneri (“Cecco” is short for Francesco). Cecco began living with Caravaggio in 1605 and acted as an assistant, model, and companion. He was also a nonconformist who confidently included erotic and homosexual imagery in his work. This show features almost all of the known paintings by Cecco as well as a number of Caravaggios, including his portraits of Cecco. —Clara Molot
