Bochner Boetti Fontana

Oct 2, 2020 – Apr 5, 2021
2700 U.S. 9, Cold Spring, NY 10516, USA

In the 1960s and 70s, similar movements in art were gaining momentum on opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean. In America, Pittsburgh-born Mel Bochner and his contemporaries were exploring Conceptualism. In Europe, the artist Alighiero Boetti was a key figure in the Arte Povera movement and Lucio Fontana was the founder of Spatialism. All were challenging traditional norms, and reappraising language, systems, and materials. In this exhibition—curated by Bochner in collaboration with Magazzino Italian Art—paintings, sculpture, and installations, including works from Bochner’s personal archive, highlight parallels between these radical schools of thought and art. —E.C.
