“At this point, I would see anything that catches Pinkleton’s eye,” writes Helen Shaw, a theater critic at The New Yorker. “Certainly there is no surer guarantee of silliness honed to a cutting edge.” The Pinkleton in question is Sam Pinkleton, fresh off his Tony Award win—Best Direction of a Play—for Oh, Mary! He’s now back with Ta-Da!, a one-man comedy by Josh Sharp. For 80 minutes, Sharp tells the story of his life, everything from incidents on the subway to his coming out, accompanied by a 2,000 slide PowerPoint that functions as a kind of footnote or live annotation. And yes, that does mean the screen behind him changes every 2.4 seconds, so be ready for flashing lights. —Jeanne Malle
