The one-of-a-kind Canadian soprano–conductor Barbara Hannigan, muse to innumerable cutting-edge composers, offers a rare New York recital. Unfazed by “extended” techniques, Hannigan can make even the most punishing experiments sound a lot like music. Her characteristically out-of-the-way playlist at the Park Avenue Armory is perhaps less out-there than some she has put together. Anticipate Scriabin, Messiaen, and John Zorn—and if you don’t know what to expect, just sign on for the adventure. —Matthew Gurewitsch
