You may know him from the Smiths—the rock band from the 1980s responsible for “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out,” “Bigmouth Strikes Again,” and many other great rock songs—but Morrissey’s career has gone far beyond those days. He’s been releasing music on his own since the band broke up in 1987. Morrissey’s first solo album, Viva Hate, came out the following year and he’s released 16 since. Along the way he’s developed his writing style while holding onto key aspects of it, mainly the bittersweet lyrics and melodies. Morrissey is said to be a wonderful live performer, and he’s made it clear he’s not going anywhere. You can see him at Radio City Music Hall. —Henry McGrath
