The media loves the 28-year-old Canadian artist Anna Weyant. First spotted on Instagram in 2018, her paintings were selling for $400 in 2019 and $1.6 million three years later. Commenting on Weyant’s rapid ascent to art-world stardom in a 2022 interview with the Wall Street Journal, the art critic Jerry Saltz said, “It can be difficult to paint with another voice in your head whispering numbers and prices, but maybe she can.” That will still take some time to prove, but thus far Weyant is Gagosian’s youngest artist (she is also dating the gallery’s founder, Larry Gagosian). Now, she’s making her European solo debut at the gallery’s Paris location. Titled after a song by the Los Angeles band Bread, this show features new paintings inspired by American pop culture and girls’ dollhouses. The unsettling aura Weyant has explored since the beginning of her career remains intact. —Jeanne Malle
