“Wilding is an alchemist,” wrote The Guardian’s Jonathan Jones in a 2018 review, “whose art is full of romance and mystery and sudden transformations.” He’s referring to Alison Wilding, an English sculptor now 71 years old. Wilding’s drawings are less known, but her work with acrylic ink on Japanese paper casts a similar spell. As with her sculptures, Wilding’s soft, floating shapes may seem abstract at first glance, but look closer and nature emerges. A bird’s wing, a leaf, a mountain peak—Wilding’s drawings reveal hidden worlds of harmony and peace. —E.C.
