Before getting into the story of this play, making its West End debut under the direction of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s co-artistic director Daniel Evans, let’s look at the cast. Ncuti Gatwa returns to the stage, but he’s sharing it with Edward Bluemel, who starred with him in Sex Education. Gatwa portrays Christopher Marlowe, the successful Elizabethan playwright and secret spy for the Crown, and Bluemel is a young, ambitious William Shakespeare—still years away from becoming the Bard. Born With Teeth, a play by Liz Duffy Adams, daringly imagines the charged relationship between the two men, inspired by the theory that they may have collaborated on the Henry VI history plays and set against the background of an era socially and politically fraught. —Jeanne Malle
