Alex Katz got his start in 1950s New York, when Abstract Expressionism was all the rage. He wasn’t taken in by the new style. Katz wanted to do something different. He made hundreds of paintings, and then without sentimentality destroyed all those he disliked. Katz is now 96 and his brand of figurative portraiture in brash colors is world renowned. Despite his success, he is still busy experimenting. Scheduled to coincide with the Venice Biennale, this exhibition features work created between 2021 and 22. —Elena Clavarino
