Tatiana Trouvé mixes fragments from nature with things man-made to communicate ideas about memory and object durability. A drawing, installation, or sculpture by Trouvé can seem eerily familiar, yet you can’t quite remember why. For this exhibition, the French-Italian artist has crafted site-specific works for three floors at Palazzo Grassi. There’s no predicting the results. “Thought is something very malleable to me,” Trouvé told Art in America in 2010. “Sometimes I have an idea for a work, I start to make it, and an incident occurs, something unexpected. Other times a new reflection or way of seeing things compels me to change the project entirely.” —Elena Clavarino
