For its 90th birthday, Guild Hall is displaying a selection of works from its permanent collection, which began with the acquisition of Howard Russell Butler’s portrait of the American painter Thomas Moran, purchased in the 1930s. Choosing from over 2,200 pieces made by more than 500 East End artists since the mid-19th century—including 15 pieces by Roy Lichtenstein, 13 by Andy Warhol, and 10 by Willem de Kooning—the selection highlights artists who lived or worked in New York. Among the gems are a Warhol screen print of Marilyn Monroe (1967), a 1951 Jackson Pollock, a 1994 David Salle lithograph, and a mid-career Chuck Close painting. —J.D.
