The Guggenheim Museum’s relationship with Pop art goes back to 1963, when the British curator and critic Lawrence Alloway organized the exhibition “Six Painters and the Object”—the first show of its kind in New York City. The museum is now revisiting that history, presenting a survey of its Pop holdings alongside recent acquisitions that track the movement’s reach into the present. Warhol, Lichtenstein, Oldenburg, Jim Dine, and Richard Hamilton share the tower galleries with Martine Gutierrez, Lauren Halsey, Lucia Hierro, and Maurizio Cattelan’s duct-taped banana. —Elena Clavarino
