Amy Hau knows how to honor a legacy while shaping its future. She began her career in 1986 as Isamu Noguchi’s assistant, working closely with the artist in the final years of his life, and later helped transform his studio into the internationally renowned Noguchi Museum. After eight years as managing principal at WXY Architecture and Urban Design, Hau returned in January 2024 to lead the museum through its 40th anniversary. As “Noguchi’s New York” opens February 4, exploring the artist’s six-decade relationship with the city, Hau continues Noguchi’s belief in art as a public gift—and brings the same clarity and restraint to the objects she lives with, from an Il Buco cutting board to a Stagg electric kettle, Aesop room spray, and more.
