The year was 1947, the place was Paris, and a group of seven photographers—among them Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and George Rodger—were busy founding an agency. It was planned as a photographic cooperative, and it would be entirely owned and run by its members. “It all sounded too halcyon to be true,” Rodger told Capa. Not only did it endure, but this year marks Magnum’s 75th anniversary. The ICP presents 150 works by 12 of Magnum’s women photographers. Their subjects range from young Islamic women in Turkey, to the relationship between two rural Argentinian cousins, to victims of domestic violence in the Midlands, U.K. —Elena Clavarino
