The list of stars who have lived in the Sunset Tower Hotel reads like the credits for the highest-budget Hollywood film ever made—among them, Jean Harlow, Tina Turner, Howard Hughes, John Wayne, Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, and Frank Sinatra. While the art-deco hotel has changed hands—and names—several times since it opened in 1929, it’s still steeped in Old Hollywood glamor. Sure, John Wayne’s former apartment, on the hotel’s ground floor, is now a 24-hour gym. But the hotel lobby is still dimly lit, the bar still serves strong martinis, and the pool still offers a glittering view of the city. —Jensen Davis
