Zannie

September 9, 2022
484 Union Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11211

The conceptual underpinning of How Do I Get This Star, the debut album from folk weirdo Zannie Owens, is simple: What if a little alien is lost in space and needs to find its way home and also has read the poetry of beat writer Jack Spicer and also has a thing for the 1977 NASA Golden Voyager Record? Okay, maybe it’s not that simple. Owens makes conceptually rich folk pop that goes down easy. There are flutters of chintzy synth arpeggios, runs of acoustic guitar, and the occasional saxophone. To celebrate the release of the record, Owens will take the stage at Union Pool, a venue in their Brooklyn home turf. —Sophie Kemp
