Jean Smart is a Hollywood mainstay, known for her role in the sitcom Designing Women (1986–93) and more recently starring as the Las Vegas comic Deborah Vance in the television series Hacks. Although Smart began her acting career in theater, she hasn’t performed on Broadway since the 2000 revival of Kaufman and Hart’s The Man Who Came to Dinner. Now, at 73, she returns to play a writer from rural Louisiana whose way with words becomes her source of power. It’s a one-woman show written by Jamie Wax. Sarna Lapine directs. —Jeanne Malle
