Walter Niedermayr: Transformations

July 29 – Oct 17, 2021
Via delle Rosine, 18, 10123 Torino TO

Whether they are everywhere or nowhere in Walter Niedermayr’s work, people are at the center of his world view. The Italian photographer, who hails from the South Tyrolean region (hence his distinctly un-Italian sounding name), is interested in the relationship between a space—often staggeringly beautiful landscapes in his native Alps—and the people who inhabit it. Needless to say, most of his images imply that the spaces would be better left alone. But the photos themselves are so beautiful that their message is hopeful. The best way to appreciate nature, they seem to suggest, is to just stay out of its way. —J.V.
