Vivian Suter paints in Panajachel, Guatemala, a small town on the northeastern shore of Lake Atitlán. Often described as a solitary woman, Suter works outside, combining rainwater and earth with oil paints and acrylics. Her totemic swathes of vibrant paint often stand in for the lush and elemental Guatemalan lowlands. In this exhibition, her frameless paintings hang from the walls and ceilings, creating a kinetically layered space. —E.C.
