Cindy Sherman: The Women

Cindy Sherman, Untitled #566, 2016.

June 23 – Oct 26, 2025

“People assume that a self-portrait is narcissistic and you’re trying to reveal something about yourself: fantasies or autobiographical information. In fact, none of my work is about me or my private life,” explains the photographer Cindy Sherman, widely recognized for self-portraits in which she takes on various personae. Sherman’s solo show in Menorca, her first in Spain in over two decades, is named after Clare Boothe Luce’s play The Women (1936). The exhibition features a selection of groundbreaking works that span 50 years, including images from the “Untitled Film Stills” series, which put Sherman the map. Her depictions of movie stars, socialites, and fashionistas beg the question, How are women publicly perceived? —Carolina de Armas
