Last Seen, Apple TV’s adaptation of Ryan David Jahn’s 2011 novel The Dispatcher, is the latest entry into the missing-child genre—a storyline that goes back to John Ford’s The Searchers, an epic made in 1956. It’s been 11 years since Ian Ridley, a police dispatcher played by Patrick Brammall, suffered the disappearance of his daughter, Maggie. Fast forward to today, when Ian receives a distress call from a teenage girl he’s convinced is his long-lost child. Is it wishful thinking, projection, or is she out there? Full of twists and turns, the series was filmed completely in Australia, a first for Apple TV, and it’s already won a five-star review from The Guardian. —Paulina Prosnitz
